Note: This is a rare English translation of La chirurgie complète, a book covering many topics, which went through 18 editions. The control of bleeding is notably covered, and Le Clerc mentions the use of vitriol buttons and direct pressure. The first London edition translated into English was published in 1696. The third edition appeared in 1701, with the separate 'A description of bandages and dressings' in the same year. The fourth edition of the main text only appeared in 1707, with the addition of Duncan's 'An excellent method .'. 'The second part of The compleat surgeon, containing an exact and compleat treatise of osteology' appeared in 1711. In 1714 the full text was reprinted in two volumes or parts, and this edition, the sixth in 1727. All editions are poorly represented in libraries. The 1707 and 1727 editions are the only ones to be issued in 8vo, the others being 12mos. 'A description of bandages and dressings' has separate pagination, register, and title-page with imprint: London: printed for J. and J. Bonwicke and R. Wilkin, J. Walthoe and T. Ward, 1727.
