[LAMB, CHARLES]. The Essays of Elia. London: Chapman & Hall Ltd., n.d. [ca. 1910].
Reprint. Leather-bound. Hardback. Octavo (200 x 135 x 30 mm.). Pp. [8], 293. Stunning binding of brown stained calf by Riviere & Son [although unsigned], with inlaid design to upper cover depicting a reading gentleman within border and lettering above, the lower cover with a quill, spine lettered in gilt above further designs, all edges gilt, turn-ins gilt ruled. Marbled endpapers, half-title, portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard. Condition: NEAR FINE. Binding tight, secure and square, the hinges intact, with only trivial signs of wear to covers. Contents immaculate with a small previous owner inscription to front endpaper. A magnificent and rare example.
Notes: The binding remains unsigned but is undoubtedly by Riviere.
