Notes: Very rare hardcover first edition in original dust jacket. This evocative ghost story, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 1967; more recently it has been adapted into a 2014 Japanese animated film drama directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, produced by the Oscar-winning animation house Studio Ghibli (renowned for the supreme subtlety of its story-telling). The setting for the story is transposed from Norfolk, England to Sapporo, Japan. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 88th Academy Awards. A powerful and truly touching tale about true friendship.
