Black coated endpapers. Illustrations in the text. Decorative head-piece and capital initial. Printed footnotes. Condition: GOOD to VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure. The covers a little marked and rubbed to extremities. The interior and plates very well-preserved. A scarce work.
Notes: A beautiful book of etchings after Michaelangelo by Joseph Fisher [1795-1890]. Most of the drawings by Michaelangelo in the Ashmolean, on which they are based, were given in 1845 -1846 by Sir Thomas Lawrence and show human figures and heads, though one shows a horse and there is a facsimile of the artists handwriting and folding plate of the Sistine Chapel. The work was first issued with only 21 plates, but this book-form edition is much expanded.
