Handsomely bound in contemporary half calf gilt; moire cloth sides; half-title; oval portrait frontispiece with tissue guard; one plate depicting a full-length portrait of the author with tissue guard; printed footnotes; tables; rear index in double columns. Printed by Stevenson and Company, Edinburgh. Provenance: Robert Sinclair's bookplate to front pastedown, and Joseph Sinclair Carolin's bookplate to front endpaper. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure with the hinges and joints intact, minor rubbing to extremities and marking to boards. Interior very well-preserved being largely fresh and clean. Scarce thus.
