SECOND EDITION. Volume 2 only of 3, leather-bound, hardcover, folio (40.5cm x 26cm x 7cm), pp. [10], 792, [20] index, [4] blank. English text in double columns. Bound in contemporary full panelled calf, spine in seven compartments, black morocco lettering-piece, initial and terminal blanks present, title-page in red and black 5 engraved portraits of monarchs, printed side-notes, index to rear in triple columns. Condition: GOOD. Slight wear to joints and spine ends. Some marks and rubbing to covers. Contents complete and largely very well-preserved. Previous owner details neatly inked to title-page. Scarce.
Notes: This is the second edition, although not mentioned on the title-page. Volume 2 only of a 3 volume set, covering the histories of five monarchs (Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, Elizabeth I, and, James I. In 1706 John Hughes collected the materials for the first two volumes; the third volume was written by White Kennett, bishop of Peterborough, by whose name this history is generally known, with numerous notes contributed by John Strype.
