First editions; two volumes, cloth-bound, hardcovers, thick 4to (28.5cm x 22cm), pp. xii, 164, [4] advertisements; iv, [4], 236, [4] advertisements. English text. Uniformly bound in publisher's blue cloth covers with decorations in gilt and blind; all page edges gilt; yellow endpapers. Totalling 163 illustrations across two volumes, each volume with a portrait frontispiece, engraved title-page, maps, numerous steel engravings, and woodcut engravings in text by W. H. Bartlett. Condition: VERY GOOD. Bindings tight and secure with the hinges and joints intact. Covers very well-preserved, some very moderate bumping to spine ends. The interiors largely fresh and clean with some very light marking in some margins. A beautiful and excellent rare set.
