[SPADON, Nicola]. Studio di curiosità nel quale si tratta di fisonomia, chiromantia, metoposcopia. Di Nicola Spadon dedicato all'illustrissimo sign. Iseppo Cassetti nobile veneto. In Venetia [Venice]: Appresso Alessandro Zatta, M DC LXVII. [1667].
Reprint; 2 parts in 1 volume; leather-bound; softcover; duodecimmo (14cm x 8cm x 1.5cm); pp 192; pagination continuous; Italian text; bound in contemporary limp vellum; smooth spine with hand-written titles in black ink; initial and terminal blanks present; decorative capitals; head- and tail-pieces; woodcut illustrations in the text. Condition: GOOD. Binding secure, the covers somewhat soiled and cockled with a couple of small holes in the upper cover, contents complete with some inking to endpapers and title-page, some light toning, small tracts in the margins to a few leaves, remains of a bookplate to front pastedown and with a few old biblioteca stamps; scarce.
Notes: Curious and rare work on physiognomy, chiromancy and metoposcopy - i.e. divination in which the diviner predicts personality, character and destiny, based on the pattern of lines on the forehead. There are several illustrations of this in the text. Part 2 begins at p.151 with a separate and rather different title. This book met with some success - and went through several editions in 17th century. Not in Caillet or Dorbon.
