ANTIQUE 8 INCH TERRESTRIAL DESK GLOBE
An original terrestrial desk globe, early Victorian era, circa 1840 to 1852, with heavy brass stand and graduated full meridian. The globe measures 8 inches diameter and 15 inches overall height. All text printed in English. Consisting of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes over a plaster core with different colours for each continent, equator and ecliptic lines. There are no apparent manufacturer/makers marks. The dating is based upon the inclusion of the three New Zealand provinces New Ulster, New Munster and New Leinster. The globe is well preserved with some very minor restoration, shallow areas of varnish loss, dulling, spotting, abrasions, surface cracks - all in good, sound, presentable condition.
