Spine gilt with five raised bands, volute tooling, and red lettering piece to the second compartment. Gilt fillets to boards. Gilt circular monogram and motto to upper cover. All page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Half-title present. Title-page vignette. Shoulder notes. Magnificent contemporary vanishing fore-edge painting depicting John Bunyan addressing the people at Moot Hall, Bedford. Condition: GOOD to VERY GOOD. Rebacked retaining the original spine, minor shelf wear to extremities. Spotting to preliminaries and rear leaves, otherwise excellent. Fore-edge painting very well preserved remaining bright and sharp. Note: The fore-edge painting shows John Bunyan addressing the people at Moot Hall in Bedford. Provenance: Blackheath Proprietary School (insignia to upper cover).
