Exquisitely bound in later half-calf signed by Bayntun [-Riviere]. Five raised spine bands. Compartments and bands ruled, tooled and lettered in gilt. Twin morocco lettering-pieces. Top edges gilt. Uneven fore edges. Marbled pastedowns and endpapers. Six illustrated title-pages. Each volume signed by G[eorge] Thomson, friend of Burns, and the signature of J. G. Burns, a son of the famous poet, occurs on the title-page of Vols I & IV. Each section contains 50 song lyrics with accompanying musical notation, and a leaf of index at the end. Some commentary provided in double columns with footnotes. Condition: VERY GOOD. Bindings very well preserved. Covers with minor wear only. Contents lightly browned. Title leaves with marginal staining. Faint off-setting. A scarce and unique set, being J. G. Burns's copy.
