Quarto (240 x 160 x 30 mm.), pp. [4], 317. Publisher's original pictorial black and gilt-stamped light blue cloth, bevelled board edges, patterned endpapers, all edges gilt. With numerous in-text illustrations by Sidney Paget. Printed by The Gresham Press. Condition: Binding tight, secure and square - the hinges strong. Very slight bumping to spine ends, with the points nicely sharp. Couple of minor splash marks to front cover, else very clean. Contents largely well preserved; however, there is some old glue residue to front and rear endpapers, two contemporary signatures and a tear to the rear endpaper. Good to very good. Scarce.

Collected in the same sequence, which is not supported by any fictional chronology, the only characters common to all twelve are Holmes and Dr. Watson and all are related in first-person narrative from Watson's point of view.
