First facsimile edition [circa 1818]. Leather-bound. Hardcover. Octavo (260 x 155 x 22 mm.). Pp. [10], 174, [22 leaves of plates]. English text. Bound in quarter leather, marbled paper-covered boards, rough cut page edges. Two title-pages: The first title is a facsimile edition originally published in 1647, with the additional title page of "The Civill Warres of England" (1649); the same work reprinted with a new title and falsely ascribed to John Leycester (Wing 1428). Engraved frontispiece bound in a the end along with 21 engraved portrait plates. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight, secure and square. Covers clean with very light shelf wear to extremities. Collated compete - the contents are a little toned in places. Without previous ownership markings.

Notes: A rare nineteenth century facsimile edition of the pamphleteer Josiah Ricraft's 1694 study on England's noted military men. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and twenty-one portraits of eminent noblemen who fought for England. This work contains short biographies of the likes of: the Earl of Calender, Edward Earle of Manchester, Edward Massey, Sir William Waller and Sir Thomas Fairfax. A scarce work in any edition, and this 19th century facsimile has been very smartly bound in a quarter calf binding, with paper covered boards.
