Beautifully bound in full leather by Grimes Bookbinder of Cheltenham, England (their ticket to corner of front pastedowns). Spines with four raised bands; gilt ruling, tooling and lettering. Boards with a gilt fillet, borders and cross-hatching in blind. Speckled page edges. Bound without half-titles. Shoulder-notes. Appendices. Volume I [third edition] published 1835. Volume II [third edition] published 1838. Volume III [second edition] 1833. Volume IV [edition unstated] published 1834. Volume V [unstated edition] published 1836 and Volume VI [unstated edition] published 1840. Printed by Marchant. Condition: VERY GOOD. Bindings tight and secure, all the hinges intact. Some light shelf wear and scuffing to covers. Interiors very well-preserved, with occasional light foxing to some prelims and diagrams. Previous owner signatures in pencil to front endpapers.

Notes: General Sir William Francis Patrick Napier KCB (1785-1860) was a British General and historian who served in the Napoleonic Wars, in particular the Peninsular War which was a military conflict between Napoleon's empire and the allied powers of Spain, Britain and Portugal, for control of the Iberian Peninsula. The six volumes are Napier's personal account of this war.
