[WELLS, H. G.]. Men Like Gods. London: Cassell and Company, Ltd, 1923.

Hardcover. First edition, first printing (printer's code F.200.123 on p 304; first state binding - Currey A: Cassell at base of spine stamped in gilt). Inscribed by author on half-title page. Cloth-bound. Octavo (195 x 130 mm.), pp. [viii], 304. Bound in publisher's original green blind embossed fabric covers. Condition: GOOD. Binding tight and secure. Points slightly bumped. Covers somewhat faded along spine and top portion of upper cover. Slight soiling to spine. Light spotting and browning to endpapers and fore edge, the remaining textblock largely very tidy. Two inkings to half-title page, one of these by the author. Lacking dust jacket. Scarce thus.

Note: The second of Wells's two major utopian fantasies, regarded as one of the best, and referred to by Wells as a "scientific fantasy" - featuring a utopia located in a parallel universe. "Three carloads of Earthlings, accidentally transported into an anarchistic 'Utopia' based on science and rationalistic social planning, react with the violence and bigotry which the author regards as characteristic of capitalism." - Survey of Science Fiction Literature III. Wells 80, 85; Bleiler p. 205. Currey p.521.
