[LAMB, CHARLES]. The Essays of Elia. With Twenty Four Illustrations in Colour by Sybil Tawse. London: Chapman & Hall Ltd., n.d. [c.1910].

Hardcover. Reprint. Leather-bound. Octavo (200 x 130 mm.), pp. [8], 242. Stunning binding of brown stained calf by Riviere & Son, with inlaid design to upper cover depicting a reading gentleman within border and lettering above, the lower cover with a quill, spine lettered in gilt above further designs, all edges gilt, turn-ins gilt ruled. Marbled endpapers, half-title detailing this edition as part of the Burlington Library series - their device also to title-page. 24 colour plates outside the pagination by Sybil Tawse, including a frontispiece with tissue-guard. Condition: NEAR FINE. Collated complete. Binding tight, secure and square, the hinges intact and trivial signs of wear to covers only. Contents largely fresh and clean with a touch of light scattered foxing to endpapers. Previous owner inscription to front endpaper dated '14:V:24'. A magnificent and rare example.
