Bound in publisher's original quarter cloth, portrait frontispiece, illustrated plate, printed footnotes. Nicely inscribed by Hilda Pendlebury on the front endpaper. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure, minor marks to covers, interior very well-preserved. Scarce thus.

Notes: First edition, one of only 250 copies printed, inscribed by the author's wife Hilda. The writings by the famously adventurous British archaeologist John Pendlebury, printed for private circulation after his death by execution during the Second World War while working for British Intelligence on Crete.
