[OLIPHANT, Margaret (1828-1897)]. The Makers of Florence: Dante, Giotto, Savonarola and Their City. London: Macmillan and Co., 1889.

REPRINT. Leather-bound; hardcover; thick octavo (19cm x 12cm x 5cm); pp. xx, 422, [2] advertisements. English text with illustrations throughout. Contemporary full vellum over bevelled boards, probably bound by the Giannini family of Florence, but lacking their makers mark; smooth spine intricately tooled in gilt, red morocco label; elaborate panelling in gilt and red morocco border inlays tooled in floral gilt patterns to covers, with hand-painted fleur-de-lis to upper cover; all page edges dyed red; decorative floral end papers; half-title. A later Extra-Illustrated edition, with numerous illustrated plates throughout. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure, the covers and contents very well-preserved, some light smudges to covers, previous owner details neatly to front endpaper. An excellent copy.
