Bound in publisher's taupe pictorial cloth, top page edges gilt, others untrimmed, Art Nouveau pictorial endpapers in colour, with pictorial title-page, frontispiece, and 7 other fine and delicate coloured plates together with line drawings throughout by Charles Robinson. Bearing the illustrators inscription and signature to the front endpaper. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure. Very light foxing and tanning throughout. Scarce thus.
Notes: First colour-illustrated edition by Charles Robinson, the first artist to turn his hand to illustrating this classic children's book. His first treatment of it, with wonderful Art Nouveau illustrations throughout in sinuous line, was published in 1896. This wonderful edition signed and inscribed by the artist on the front endpaper.
