Hardcover. Leather-bound. First edition (limited edition no.65 of 250 copies - hand-signed to limitation page). Folio (320 x 240 mm), pp. (x), 156 + 84 leaves of plates. Handsomely bound in contemporary half leather. Spine with five raised bands, gilt ruling and lettering with black morocco lettering-piece. Text translated from Italian into English by Ronald Boothroyd. Contents: Introduction; I. Gentile da Fabriano and his followers; II. The popular art of the Brothers Salimbeni; III. The latter half of the fifteenth century; IV. The influence of the art of Crivelli in the Marches; V. Painting at the Court of Urbino; Conclusions; Notes; Bibliographical Index; Index of Artists; Plates 1-84; Limitation Page. One illustration to a leaf and displayed on rectos, each with a captioned tissue-guard. The text was printed in monotype Baskerville by the officina Bodoni, Verona. The collotype plates were executed by Daniel Jacomet, Paris. The binding was carried out by Messers Nevett Ltd., London. The original English edition consists of 250 copies only.

Condition: GOOD to VERY GOOD. Binding secure the hinges intact. A little erosion to title-plate and head of spine. Some foxing to preliminary textual leaves and fore-edge, however the plates remain very clean. Without previous ownership markings. Scarce.
