Notes: A wonderful first edition copy of A New Glossary of the Dialect of the Huddersfield District, which was written by Walter Edward Haigh (1856-1931), who had been the Head of the English & History Department at Huddersfield Technical College, published by Oxford University Press in 1928. The book is noteworthy for containing a foreword by Professor J.R.R. Tolkien, who would go on to write The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien seemingly made use of this glossary for his famous works.
