Brown, True Williams, B. Day and other artists - with three or four pictures made by the author. Handsomely rebound in three quarters morocco gilt, cloth sides, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers, portrait frontispiece with tissue guard. Condition: GOOD. Binding tight, secure and square. Spine somewhat faded. Interior very well-preserved. Without previous ownership markings.
Notes: First edition of Twain's classic fictionalised account of his walking tour of central and southern Europe, second state with the frontispiece captioned "Titian's Moses". First edition points include: "fee" for "feel" on page 37, 2oo for 200 on page 46, "spirting" for "spurting' on page 414, and on page 465 "stuck" for "stick". A handsomely rebound copy.
