Handsome contemporary marbled calf; gilt rules and tooling to spine and covers; marbled pastedowns and endpapers; portrait frontispiece of Giulio Romano by Giovanni Bottani and engraved by Cristoforo Dall'Acqua; three folding etched copper plates to rear with a plan of the palace and two facades of the Palazzo's façades designed by Antonio Maria Campi and engraved by Cristoforo Dell'Acqua; medallion vignette to title-page; chapter head-piece; initial and terminal blanks; bookplate to front pastedown. Condition: GOOD to VERY GOOD. Collated complete. Binding secure. Light rubbing to edges. Text-block largely clean with just a touch of light foxing.
Notes: First edition of this rare work on the paintings of the Palazzo del Te in Mantova made by Giulio Romano, attributed to Giovanni Bottani, who seems to have taken inspiration from a manuscript by Leopoldo Camillo Volta. Dedicated to Ferdinando Carlo d'Asburgo and Maria Beatrice d'Este who commissioned the work (see DBIt). [Berl-Kat., 2729.
