Notes: Charles Bonnycastle (1796-1840) was professor of natural philosophy and mathematics at the University of Virginia, from the school's opening in 1825 to his death; this book, his only published volume, was "painfully prolix even by nineteenth-century standards and this innovative book was not a financial success" (Encyclopedia Virginia online).
