[DAHL, ROALD]. James and the Giant Peach. London: George Allen & Unwin, 1967.
FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING. Hardcover, octavo (24cm x 17cm x 1.5cm), pp. 111, [1]. English text, with illustrations by Michel Simeon. Bound in publisher's original pictorial laminated covers, initial and terminal blanks plus half-title present. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure, covers and contents largely very well-preserved, trivial wear to spine ends, a few very light fox spots, without previous ownership markings. A handsome copy and scarce thus.
Notes: First UK edition, first printing. In the publisher's original pictorial laminated boards, without dust-wrapper as issued. Illustrated with line drawings throughout by Michel Simeon. A lovely copy, the binding firm and the fragile laminate film intact. A superb example of a notoriously brittle production. The first printing of this classic of children's literature and the first edition to feature illustrations by Michel Simeon, which remained the standard up until 1990. Quentin Blake first illustrated the book in 1995. The story was first published in America in 1961 by Alfred A. Knopf, with illustrations by Nancy Ekholm Burkert.
