Bound in contemporary half calf; smooth spine with banding; marbled paper-covered boards; initial and terminal blanks; vignette title and letterpress title. Printed in Great Britain by Spottiswoode. Condition: GOOD. Binding tight and secure, the joints and hinges intact. Lacking the spine label. Boards somewhat rubbed with some paper losses and a ring mark to lower cover. Lacking the half-title and engraved frontispiece but otherwise complete. The textblock with some light toning and a few fox spots. Two initial blank leaves with small fore edge tears. Ink inscription to title-page head. Scarce.
Notes: A good copy of the first Richard Bentley edition in contemporary half leather binding. It was issued as part of the Standard Novels series introducing a much wider range of readers to Jane Austen's works.
