Publisher's original blue cloth elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt to front cover and spine; all page edges gilt; blue coated endpapers; half-title; sixty-two full-page and vignette engravings. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight and secure with slight spine lean. Trivial bumping to spine ends, the covers beautifully preserved. Contents excellent with some light spotting to prelims. Without previous ownership markings. Scarce thus.
Notes: First edition of Sense and Sensibility with Chris Hammond illustrations. Chris Hammond was born Christiana Mary Demain Hammond and shortened her name to better compete in what was a male-dominated market for illustrators at the time.
