Publisher's original pictorial black and gilt-stamped red cloth designed by Alfred Garth Jones. With 16 illustrations by Sidney Paget. Bookplate of Francis Godlee to front pastedown. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight, secure and square - the hinges strong. Minor bumping and rubbing of the spine ends, the points and board-edges sharp. Covers clean with very light dulling to spine cloth. Interior very clean indeed, all 16 illustrated plates present. Scarce.
Notes: First edition in book-form, first impression. The Hound of the Baskervilles was Sherlock Holmes's comeback after his shocking demise on the Reichenbach Falls stunned his loyal Victorian readership.
