Publisher's original pictorial black and gilt-stamped red cloth designed by Alfred Garth Jones. With 16 illustrations by Sidney Paget. Bookplate of Francis Godlee to front pastedown. Condition: VERY GOOD. Binding tight, secure and square - the hinges strong. Minor bumping and rubbing of the spine ends, the points and board-edges sharp. Covers clean with very light dulling to spine cloth. Interior very clean indeed, all 16 illustrated plates present. Scarce.

The Hound of the Baskervilles was Sherlock Holmes's comeback after his shocking demise on the Reichenbach Falls stunned his loyal Victorian readership.
