Stunning full blue morocco binding, signed by Bayntun-Riviere, Bath, England; five raised spine bands; compartments and bands gilt tooled and lettered; both covers with gilt tooled vignette; turn-ins gilt ruled; all page edges gilt; hand-marbled pastedowns and endpapers; initial and terminal blanks plus half-titles present; beautifully illustrated throughout by J. Lockwood and W. H. Drake with full page and in-the-text drawings, head- and tail-pieces and decorative initials. Fore-edge with a spectacular hand-painted image by an unknown but skilled artist incorporating Mowgli and other Jungle Book characters, which displays well when the pages are splayed and is hidden when the book is closed. Condition: FINE. An immaculate copy presented in an exquisite binding, without previous ownership markings. Scarce thus.
