Bound in contemporary full vellum, initial and terminal blanks present, engraved frontispiece portrait of Lipsius, engraved title-page within elaborate architectural border with oval portraits and an allegorical medallion, 2 large engraved plates (portraits of Justus Lipsius and Seneca), illustrations within the text on B6 and Zzz6 versos, woodcut tail-pieces and decorative initials, printed side- and footnotes, rear index in double columns. Condition: GOOD. Collated complete. Binding tight and secure. Rubbing and marking to covers. Occasional browning and with some light toning. Worming to gutters of endpapers. Notes: Fourth edition of this recension. An important edition, published by the Plantin Moretus press. Two completely different settings exist of this edition. This setting has an initial dedication to Pope Urbano VIII and the catchword 'imitari' on **1 recto. The other setting can be recognized by the "Privilegium Cæsareum" (leaf **1 recto) having the catchword 'gere'. Brunet, V, 276-77: "Edition estimée. Les 3 premières edit. sont moins complètes".
